SAN ANTONIO, TX – San Antonio FC (1-2-3) will continue their road trip and face the Las Vegas Lights (2-0-2) at Cashman Field this Friday, April 27 at 10 p.m. CT. The game is the first meeting between the two clubs, and just the second time SAFC has played a match in the state of Nevada.
San Antonio enters the match having kept their second clean sheet of the season last Sunday in Fresno. The shutout marked goalkeeper Diego Restrepo’s 14th with the club since he joined prior to the 2017 season, which also marks the most by any USL goalkeeper in the regular season during that time frame. Restrepo was named to the USL Team of the Week, and has now shut-out his opponents in over 40 percent of the matches he has played in an SAFC kit.
"I’m glad that I was able to help the team get the shutout on Sunday," said Restrepo. "Getting named to the Team of the Week is an honor and it really motivates me to try to go out and perform even better. Last week we had a good match defensively but that’s in the past, so now we’ll focus on our match on Friday and do our best go out and get the result we want."
The match is the second of a long road trip for San Antonio FC, with the team staying in California in between their matches with Fresno and Las Vegas. The time together provides an opportunity for the team to continue to get close and properly prepare for their upcoming clash with the Lights, without having to worry about the extra travel.
"It’s always good to get the guys on the road together and spend a bit of time with one another," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "Obviously staying in Fresno has allowed us more time to train, so we’ve been able to prepare well for Friday’s match. We have to focus on what we’re going to do, put our game plan in place, and go out there on Friday and try to execute it."
The Lights enter Friday’s home match coming off a bye week after previously drawing the Sacramento Republic 1-1 on April 14. Currently, Las Vegas sits in 10th place in the standings on eight points, just two points and two spots above San Antonio. One of Las Vegas’ most prominent attacking players, midfielder Carlos Alvarez, will be quite familiar to San Antonio fans. Alvarez was the first-ever player signed by San Antonio FC prior to the 2016 season. Alvarez made 30 appearances (2,374 minutes) with SAFC, scoring four goals and recording a team-high seven assists over the course of the 2016 season. So far with the Lights, he has recorded one goal and two assists in four matches played (360 minutes).
San Antonio is hoping to earn its first road win of the season in Vegas after previously going 0-1-2 on the road so far in 2018. Following their match against the Lights, SAFC will travel back to San Antonio where they will face Fresno FC once again – this time at Toyota Field on May 5 at 7:30 p.m.
